Few things I’ve been working on lately. All pretty guitar and drum heavy.

Snip Snip Sweetheart Ft Orchestra of Antlers – She’s Gone

May 23, 2009 by mcsnacktime

Here’s a brand spanking new (and very rough) demo from Snip Snip Sweetheart featuring Derek from Orchestra of Antlers.

This song is very rough, and very far from being done, and will no doubt transform in many ways before you hear it next…

Here it is:

Gettin’ Stringy Wit It.

April 3, 2009 by mcsnacktime

My Mom’s acoustic guitar found its way into my living room recently, and I spent the week trying to play it for 20 minutes or so each day. Wednesday’s session yielded this recording:

I’m Busy (01/04/09)

As with nearly everything posted here, its very rough, but I like where this is going. I hope you enjoy.

Bang Bang

February 17, 2009 by mcsnacktime

When Luis came to visit we recorded a quick live demo of “Bang Bang” by Nancy Sinatra (originally by Sonny and Cher). While there is no video (I lied. There is, but I’m saving it for the DVD.) there is some audio. It has no post production other than a little volume bump. I hope you enjoy.

Late Night Rewrite

February 9, 2009 by mcsnacktime

My good friend and musical hero Luis Zavala (who penned, strummed and sang this amazing song) came to visit this past Sunday and spent some time helping me retune the Snip Snip Sweetheart song “Bloodstained Wicked.” I took some video of the process, and in keeping with my new fangled web 2.0 “behind the scenes” posting things of that nature, I’ve uploaded it to share.

Here’s a quick video of what we were working on:

A Look Into My Workflow

Here’s a little video I made showing how I compose. I used the project “Dark Pop” which you may remember from this post.

A Spark

Spark [spahrk] -noun : anything that activates or stimulates; inspiration or catalyst.

Sometimes a spark doesn’t turn into a flame. Sometimes its just a “catalyst.”

One Turntable and… Ummm, a Trigger Finger

January 11, 2009 by mcsnacktime

Thanks to my friend and coworker Dj Mark 7, I now have a turntable. And a few nights ago decided to take it for (pardon the awful pun) spin.

Here’s the setup:

The Setup

The Setup: 1 Turntable + 1 Ghetto Blaster + 1 Trigger Finger + 1 Fast Track USB + 1 Mixer = Lots of Fun.

After much playing around, and learning as I go, I was able to get the the whole thing working. I first sampled a piano loop from the turntable, looped it in Ableton Live, used the Trigger Finger to pound out the drum track, then scratched over it. This is the result:

My First Scratch Test

It was an interesting experince, and one I am very much looking forward to repeating.

How I spend my 10 minute breaks at work.

January 10, 2009 by mcsnacktime

I took a 10 minute break this morning and made this little beat in Beatmaker on my iPod Touch.
10 Minute Break Unmixed

Then I came back inside and made this when I dumped the file into Ableton Live.
10 Minute Break Mixed

It’s pretty simple, pretty short, but an interesting workflow experiment. Starting with one pocket device, then using computer software to enhance it and shape into something different. This is what makes the iPod Touch/iPhone platform so intriguing to me as a musical interface.
